Luff-in Series
Oct. 22-23, 2005

Get yourself comfortable; it's going to take a few minutes to report all of the awards Team MBYC raked in at the season-closing Luff-in at SDYC! On a somewhat dreary Saturday morning, coach Nick Martin led team MBYC's efforts in the FJ and 420 classes. By the end of the day Charlotte Hughes and Olin Paine had come out on top of the FJ fleet, followed by MB sailors Mallory Schluter and Kevin Laube in 2nd. In the 420s Scott Hoffmann and all-star crew Megan Magill captured 3rd place for the day. Scott, I hope you took notes!

The real excitement came when the season Luff-in scores were tallied. MBYC sailors demonstrated once again that consistency scores big. Mallory and Kevin captured the Doug Hart Perpetual Trophy for the season; a special honor as Doug is a prominent MBYC member. But that's not all! Scott, Ryan Porteus, and Megan brought home the Mark Reynolds Perpetual as well. It will truly be an honor to have these two prestigious awards in the clubhouse this year! Sunday's conditions started out equally mediocre, but the drizzle stopped and the breeze, while light, was sailable. Out on the Laser Radial course, it was Evan Hoffmann's turn to cash in, grabbing 3rd for the day. Scott was also in the top half.

In the Sabot C3 division, the largest in the regatta with 21 boats, Trevor Hecht scored 15th, while big brother Matt nailed one bullet and grabbed a cool beanie for his 4th place overall. Not bad considering Matt was sailing literally the softest boat I have ever seen. I understand there's a Brian Thomas in the garage as we speak. Look out!

Our Sabot A and B fleeters know they have the most work to do. While Jay Sanchioli brought home a trophy, a couple deep races for everyone prevented a few great moments from shining through. Time to turn up the intensity for the JCR. We can all be proud of these early accomplishments. With continued hard work, I know this is just the beginning.
