The Racing-cruising fleet is an anomaly in a club that promotes single design yacht racing. The intent of its organizers, some twenty plus years ago, was to have fun with your boat and friends. That still is the guiding principle of this fleet. Strict measurement rules don't apply here, you just need a boat, and that isn't even always necessary, just a desire for the camaraderie of boating. As the name implies, the fleet races and cruises, doing more of the latter than the former.

The Cruising Fleet was organized some twenty plus years ago to have fun with your boat and friends. It isn’t always necessary to have a boat to enjoy the camaraderie of boating. Monthly mini-cruises are the mainstay of the fleet. These usually consist of cruising to San Diego Bay, Oceanside or Mariner’s Cove. They may discuss such ponderous subjects as bottom paint, varnish, hull shapes and such other nautical subjects that might ensue.
There is nothing like the rolling motion of a boat at anchor with moist dew forming on the decks and a bright moon overhead to induce a fantastic night’s sleep. Where possible cruises are scheduled to coincide with a long holiday weekends so an additional day away from the dock is accomplished.
The Catalina cruise is the premier event of the year. The fleet, anywhere from thirty to forty boats sail up the coast, stopping at ports to overnight, sharing the hospitality of the other clubs. The trip across the channel to Catalina separates the fleet with each going to favorite anchorages or moorings. Wednesday all boats converge to the Isthmus for the fleet beach party. This might last well into the night with singing, storytelling and such. It has been estimated that the fleet has sailed well over 50,000 miles of ocean.
The regular fleet meeting night is the fourth Friday of the month. This is a dinner meeting catered by the club’s kitchen. Any guests planning to attend should make reservations two days prior to the meeting at the club office. The fleet welcomes all members of the club to participate.
